About

Who We Are

Our Mission Statement

The AIMSR Oncology Student Interest Group seeks to develop the future oncology workforce and foster oncology exposure at AIMSR. We connect medical students to cancer care, advance research, spread awareness, and walk alongside patients and families, while confronting Telangana's distinct oncology challenges through student-led initiative and ground-level action.

Our Affiliation

We are affiliated with the ASCO® Oncology Student Interest Group Program for the 2026–27 term.

What We Do

Three Pillars of Our Work

The AIMSR OSIG works across three pillars: Academics, Research & Innovation, and Community Outreach.

Academics

The AIMSR OSIG's academic calendar is built around four recurring activities:

  • Journal Club — Critical appraisal of landmark trials, recent publications, and emerging cancer therapies.
  • Case Discussion — Interactive walk-throughs of real oncology cases, from presentation to management.
  • Oncopathology Session — Correlating histopathology, immunohistochemistry, and molecular markers with the clinical picture.
  • AIMSR Oncology Quiz — Our signature event. A high-energy oncology quiz spanning cancer biology to landmark trials, where the group's year culminates.

Research & Innovation

Research is at the core of what the AIMSR OSIG is building. Our work spans three areas:

  • AIMSR Cancer Registry Initiative — A structured, institutionally approved cancer registry being developed at AIMSR to document the oncology burden in our catchment population. Designed as an AI-ready dataset from day one: structured, standardized, and built to support modern computational oncology research in Telangana.
  • Student-Led Research Projects — Faculty-mentored retrospective studies, observational research, systematic reviews, and case reports, drawing on real clinical and registry data.
  • ASCO® Abstract & Publication Pipeline — Supporting members in submitting to the ASCO® Annual Meeting Medical Student & Resident Research Forum, poster presentations, and peer-reviewed publication.

Community Outreach

The AIMSR OSIG works in collaboration with the AIMSR Community Outreach Club to deliver cancer-focused awareness and education for patients, families, and the public.
